The absolute worst thing about Leto Svet just winning our Eurovision song contest final is that I now have the blasted thing going on and on in my head... WAAAAAA!!! I don't want to. Really. How can something so utterly stupid be so catchy? *weeps*

Never mind that half of Europe will now think that this Slavic-sounding thing (which is supposed to be Serbo-Croatian, I suspect) is what we actually speak here... ah well. Honestly, I don't know why I even bother watching ESC these days - mostly to point and laugh, I think, but sometimes even that gets painful.

Should just blow my nose and do something else now. Like continue reading fic. Have had a bad headache all day, since the moment I woke, and although it's gone down a bit, it's still not really conducive to doing much anything. Which explains why I've spent the day not doing anything!

I've always avoided the ESC like the plague. But then I seem to avoid most of the stuff on TV like the plague, with the exception of Doctor Who when it's on.

Hope your headache goes away. They're really rotten things to wake up with.

I think watching it is a habit left over from childhood... when it was not considered quite the lowest form of television entertainment yet!

Besides, considering I watch TV (as in actually something on TV, and not on DVD) about half a dozen times a year, I guess it's my shameful little secret indulgence. ;-)

Headaches are very rotten things. They seem to be a staple on weekends though - possibly because I sleep too much? But as it's the only time when I can get enough sleep, I don't really want to get up at 8 just to possibly avoid the headache either...

And we're having a proper blizzard. Hasn't been this windy for a while! So no going out for fresh air either.

Could it be that at the w/e you let go a little of the tension you build during the week? That's often a cause of headaches. Maybe you need to find a way to relax (meditation techniques? yoga?) more generally. Yoga is also good for general health, I've been told.

I hope you're a bit better today, and can get some fresh air to blow away the cobwebs, weather permitting.

Eurovision: I love it. I try to watch every year - it's the direst, most kitsch thing I can think of on TV, and yet I am always disappointed if I have to miss it. We line up the beers and pizza, hone our invective, and hey presto - an evening of pure entertainment. We don't care who wins, though.

I don't think I'm very good at forced relaxing. I can't imagine doing meditation or yoga! I'd go stir-crazy within a few moments, I think - I'm just way too impatient. Just the mere thought of "relaxing" is enough to make me stressed.

I'm feeling a whole lot better today though, no headache - just wish my nose wasn't so completely blocked again!

Fresh air would be nice, and I suspect mum is going to drag me out soon - it's sunny. Never mind that the wind is still gusting to 60 km/h or so, which isn't really pleasant in the winter.

Eurovision is a good way to spend a few hours making fun of everything... and there is usually at least one decent or even good song among all the horridness, too. Not one that ends up winning though!

Not so secret now though! ;p

Headaches are very, very rotten. I used to get them far too regularly last year when I was living in London.

And we're having a proper blizzard. Hasn't been this windy for a while! So no going out for fresh air either.

No blizzard here, but it's far too windy to go to archery today. :(

Not so secret any more, no... no less secret than being into fanfic!

I've been blissfully headache-free today. It's amazing how much more you appreciate this state when it comes right after a full day of pounding in your head.

The wind today seems to have blown most of last night's snow away again. It's finally calmed down a bit though, so I hope tomorrow will be nicer. I like snow, but not 60 km/h wind - in the winter, in a seaside town. The humidity makes you feel it right to the bones, no matter how warmly you dress!

Hopefully the wind calms down again for you too. I can imagine archery isn't so much fun when the wind is going to carry the arrow away in some random direction!

Oh well. Archery is more fun when it's warmer, too.

As is photography... there is something to be said for not having completely frozen hands. Obviously I do wear gloves, but if I have to keep my hands out of my pockets for hours in the winter, I'd really need warm thick mittens, and those are not exactly useful with a camera!

Frozen hands are not nice...

If I do go to archery when it's cold, I can only wear thin gloves. Anything else would be too clumsy.

While it isn't as cold in England as Estonia, it's still plenty cold enough to be miserable.

Oh yeah, even +5°C is not exactly pleasant for hands when you can't keep them properly warm. I rather envy people whose hands are less susceptible to freezing.

And it's not just that feeling cold and miserable sucks, but when one has frozen hands, then it gets considerably more difficult to use them for anything requiring any sort of precision. So I can completely sympathise!

Ok, so I clicked on the link and now my 4 year old is humming the tune. He loves music. What exactly is the song about? Feel better.

Thanks! I hope I will tomorrow.

What exactly is the song about?

Er... good question. :-D Approximate translation of the lyrics...

[in Serbo-Croatian]

Summer Light

Who am I?
Bill please.
My trailer
has run out of gas.

I have no gas

Two double slices
of chocolate cake.
I'm fed up with
green beans.

Fed up

Summer light,
this is summer light.
Summer light,
this is summer light.

Summer light

Potatoes,
beans, onion,
lobster -
I'm fed up with those.

[in German]

Summer light,
this is summer light
Summer light,
this is summer light

Summer light

[in Serbo-Croatian]

Potatoes,
beans, onion,
lobster -
I'm fed up with those.

I'm fed up with sausages.

[in Finnish]

Now what?
Summer lights now.
Now what?
Summer lights now.

Summer lights now

[in Serbo-Croatian]

Summer light,
this is summer light
Summer light,
this is summer light

Summer light

Erm, that song is dreadful. Could they not decide on a language or is it because it is supposed to appeal to Europeans as a whole? It reminds me of the awful Russian music my exchange student friends brought with them in 1989. Now the tune is in my head too.

I suspect it's playing on the fact that the Balkan countries have been doing rather well in recent years in the Eurovision song contest... something a lot of the rest of Europe isn't happy about, some calling the contest Balkanovision and things like that.

It's not really supposed to be serious. But sending a parody to the contest is hardly original these days - there are always a few comedy efforts in the final, most of them tending to be better!

Good to know that it is not completely serious.
