The glass is half-full
Got the blower for the camera yesterday and just attempted cleaning the sensor.
The bad news is that there is still an annoying small spot of dust left, which I couldn't get rid of even after several attempts, so I am forced to assume it's stuck and no amount of blowing will get rid of it. And I'm really not feeling secure enough to actually attempt any contact cleaning - my hands were shaking badly as it was even with the blowing, which I know is as safe as it gets. I did get a more advanced CCD sensor cleaning kit as well, but seriously, with this sort of shakiness, I'd better not use it - the risks are probably not worth it (and it voids the warranty, as using the blower is the only thing the user is authorised to do on his/her own).
The good news is that it seems I got rid of the much larger spot of dust, which was the one that prompted me to do the cleaning in the first place. That smaller one I hadn't even noticed myself (until now, and now that I know it's there, I do see it on pictures and it's annoying, but not nearly as bad as the other one was). At least I can't see the large one on any test pics, so I assume it's gone.
I suppose I'll just try to live with the small one for now, and perhaps try blowing the dust off now and then again - maybe it'll get unstuck at some point. If it really starts bothering me, I can always take the camera in for professional cleaning.
In other bad news, the speakers I got for mum's computer sound completely horrid (hm, was to be expected I guess from cheap ones, but one could always hope!). I'm hoping they'll take them back - they should, anyway, if the relevant laws regarding buying things over the Internet (i.e. without a chance to test things in the store) are to be believed.
In other better news, I got a call from the optometry store yesterday and they told me they've ordered a new lens to replace the chipped one. It'll take a few weeks of course, but as they didn't mention anything about it being my fault or anything about money, I think it's safe to assume they won't actually be trying to make me take the blame for their mistake.

The Samsung sounds nice, but I don't think it's available around here. Our speaker selection tends to be fairly boring - a bunch of cheap low-quality no-name things, and then the fancier 2.1-7.1 systems, which are quite a bit more expensive. And I'd rather buy locally - less hassle, should there be a problem.
I suppose I'll just need to get some medium-class 2.1 system for her too or something like that... I've been reasonably pleased with my own 2.1 Philips set, which is quite a few years old now, but not too bad (nothing that a proper music aficionado would squee about but not too tinny or obviously off).

It means more waiting, but then again, the date they originally gave me was 26 September, so it shouldn't take much longer than I was prepared to wait for anyway.
