The glass is half-full

Got the blower for the camera yesterday and just attempted cleaning the sensor.

The bad news is that there is still an annoying small spot of dust left, which I couldn't get rid of even after several attempts, so I am forced to assume it's stuck and no amount of blowing will get rid of it. And I'm really not feeling secure enough to actually attempt any contact cleaning - my hands were shaking badly as it was even with the blowing, which I know is as safe as it gets. I did get a more advanced CCD sensor cleaning kit as well, but seriously, with this sort of shakiness, I'd better not use it - the risks are probably not worth it (and it voids the warranty, as using the blower is the only thing the user is authorised to do on his/her own).

The good news is that it seems I got rid of the much larger spot of dust, which was the one that prompted me to do the cleaning in the first place. That smaller one I hadn't even noticed myself (until now, and now that I know it's there, I do see it on pictures and it's annoying, but not nearly as bad as the other one was). At least I can't see the large one on any test pics, so I assume it's gone.

I suppose I'll just try to live with the small one for now, and perhaps try blowing the dust off now and then again - maybe it'll get unstuck at some point. If it really starts bothering me, I can always take the camera in for professional cleaning.

In other bad news, the speakers I got for mum's computer sound completely horrid (hm, was to be expected I guess from cheap ones, but one could always hope!). I'm hoping they'll take them back - they should, anyway, if the relevant laws regarding buying things over the Internet (i.e. without a chance to test things in the store) are to be believed.

In other better news, I got a call from the optometry store yesterday and they told me they've ordered a new lens to replace the chipped one. It'll take a few weeks of course, but as they didn't mention anything about it being my fault or anything about money, I think it's safe to assume they won't actually be trying to make me take the blame for their mistake.

Does your mom listen to a lot of music on her computer? And does she need/demand stereo? If not, I've been won over by the Samsung Pleomax PSP-5000 USB speaker. Only one speaker, and a small one at that. No power plug needed, it's USB powered. And if you want to turn it off, you just slap it :-) You lose the stereo effect. Otherwise, it has correct sound quality even playing stuff that's making some speakers cringe (I'm listening to Gitlis playing Paganini right now). Oh, and it's pretty cheap :-)

Yay on the lens! That's one good thing. I don't know enough about cameras or speakers to do other than commiserate about those parts.
