...numbness.

Dentist day again today - went back with the tooth all three dentists have been rather pessimistic about ever since my first visit last year, but have attempted to do something about anyway, with firm warnings that the root medicine might not work and it might well need to be pulled after all. So I went in today with more than a bit of trepidation, after four months with the medicine in and a temporary filling, quite prepared to be told that nope, it didn't work and the tooth will need to go.

To my rather pleasant surprise, the two X-rays showed that it all looks very promising, and opening it up didn't change the dentist's opinion, so I can now has three filled root canals and a new temporary filling, with going back next week for a permanent one.

She did say that there won't be any talk about a crown (which will eventually be needed) at the very least for a year as we'll have to see how the tooth behaves with a permanent filling. But all in all, very good news (yes, I'm in a place where getting the same tooth worked on for eight months and having the root canals opened three times and all sort of unpleasantness, and needing a crown, and having spent a small fortune on it already and going to spend a whole lot more, counts as good news, as I had resigned to losing it after all).

I must say it's still odd to go to the dentist and not get any drilling at all, just a whole lot of digging around. Which is not the most pleasant feeling ever, even if it doesn't hurt.

Right, ought to start working now, before the anaesthetics wear off and it all starts hurting - I expect quite a bit of the usual tenderness, even if not any "real" pain.

Well, as un-fun as that sounds, I'm glad to hear the news was good!

Thanks! I was glad, too - even if I'm feeling decidedly crappy and ouchie now that the numbness is wearing off. Ah well, this feeling usually clears off by the next day.

*hugs* That sounds like a bit of improvement, but still...

It's improvement in the sense that I'll get to keep my tooth (or what's left of it)!

And also, after next week, this means I'll be done with all the more immediate "groundwork" - shouldn't have anything else apart from a bridge and a few crowns needed, but those can/have to wait. It's been a long and painful year...

*hugs too*

It certainly beats losing one's teeth.

Quite! I'm still regretting taking so very long to find the courage for the whole ordeal, but it's a bit too late to really think about that now, so I'm just pleased for the "small" victories.

I'm not normally squeamish, but I will admit that this made me cringe a bit. Still, as you say, it's better than losing a tooth.

I hope you don't get too much of an ouchie when the anaesthetic wears off.

I did cut, and avoided going into too much detail... *adjusts halo*

It's OK if I don't let the upper and lower teeth meet now. Any slightest pressure on it currently means a flash of fiery ouchie going through it (gum tenderness at its post-dentistry best), and I have a horrid taste in my mouth, but all that ought to be gone by tomorrow.

Well, if I were squeamish as a rule, I wouldn't have clicked. I must be being all sensitive and princessy today or something.

Some days just are like that!

I'll admit to keeping my eyes closed most of the time at the dentist. It's one thing to have to feel everything that is going on, but quite something else to have to see all the tools going in, too.

I can't win, can I?

Here's a pretty Sevvie for you.

This is payback, yes? The mental image of pretty Sevvie mating with a badger...

Yay for good news! Even if it is expensive, better than having a tooth yanked out.

Hope the post-anaesthetic ouch was no more than expected and is getting better.

Definitely better, yes! Even if there is a bit of pain to suffer.

I don't really expect the tenderness to wear off until morning. Grrr. Soft foods for me today, I suspect.

You bet I'm keeping my eyes open - I want to know what he's doing in there, and I need to glare in order to suitably intimidate him. *hates dentists*

Here's some virtual dark chocolate mousse for you!

Well, I peek a bit. ;-)

Can't see too well without my own glasses anyway (as they get replaced by the sunglasses-like things to protect the eyes from the strong light used), but I do maintain it's a good thing, at least after seeing all those 2-3 cm long screw-like needles for the root canal cleaning and all sorts of long twisted syringe needles and so on... *shudders a bit*

I don't think I'm too good at glaring though. Especially as the dentist also has an assistant, so it's two against one and they're both bigger than me... and they're the ones with the needles and drills!

Thank you - virtual is all I can take today anyway. Although mousse doesn't require chewing at least...
