Dentist day again today - went back with the tooth all three dentists have been rather pessimistic about ever since my first visit last year, but have attempted to do something about anyway, with firm warnings that the root medicine might not work and it might well need to be pulled after all. So I went in today with more than a bit of trepidation, after four months with the medicine in and a temporary filling, quite prepared to be told that nope, it didn't work and the tooth will need to go.
To my rather pleasant surprise, the two X-rays showed that it all looks very promising, and opening it up didn't change the dentist's opinion, so I can now has three filled root canals and a new temporary filling, with going back next week for a permanent one.
She did say that there won't be any talk about a crown (which will eventually be needed) at the very least for a year as we'll have to see how the tooth behaves with a permanent filling. But all in all, very good news (yes, I'm in a place where getting the same tooth worked on for eight months and having the root canals opened three times and all sort of unpleasantness, and needing a crown, and having spent a small fortune on it already and going to spend a whole lot more, counts as good news, as I had resigned to losing it after all).
I must say it's still odd to go to the dentist and not get any drilling at all, just a whole lot of digging around. Which is not the most pleasant feeling ever, even if it doesn't hurt.
Right, ought to start working now, before the anaesthetics wear off and it all starts hurting - I expect quite a bit of the usual tenderness, even if not any "real" pain.
