Have had a relatively busy Saturday morning - had coffee, cleaned up the kitchen a bit, scrubbed the walls where the cats sleep (and sneeze), and picked out a handful of pics from last Sunday's walk at Pirita, mainly in the convent ruins.

So here's the picspam before I have to start working.

All pics with the DSLR and the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens - the first outing for that lens. As always with primes, the fixed focal length sets its limitations, but on the other hand, it's a rather nice "normal" length, so it's not quite as challenging as some others.

A lot of road building going on in the area, hence the dust.

The obligatory front shot of the convent (it's been in ruins since 1575).

And a side view.

The side passages are lovely.

Outside, with a view towards the river.

Side passages on the other side.

Lovely, but the dynamic range is trying for the camera... had to go on manual mode for a lot of these shots as P insisted on overexposing everything.

An old grave with lilies of the valley planted all over it.

Autumn.

Erm. No idea what that's supposed to be, apart from art.

More autumn.

And yet more autumn.

And the obligatory rust shot.

Right, time to work... mum seems to want to go out today too as it's lovely and sunny, so I ought to get at least a few dozen lines done before that.

Pretty! Ruins, autumn leaves... think that mystery arty thing might be a gargoyle?

I'm quite sure it's not a gargoyle - no openings!

Could be a chimera, I suppose, but I'm fairly sure it's a modern free-standing sculpture.

I'm very disappointed. And hungry.

Some of the grass might be edible?

Beautiful as ever. I'd love to explore that convent.

My favourite photo is of the leaf on the mud.

Gorgeous -- again. (Don't you ever get tired of taking stunning photos?)

I love the gargoyle-mated-with-conch-shell thingy one, and the mushroom, and all the pictures of the convent (is klooster the Estonian word for convent? They have the exact same word -- or at least spelling of it, likely isn't read the same -- in Dutch), and the rusty pole... And you've successfully reminded me that my camera is still in for repairs, so I'm experiencing fierce camera!envy right now.

I don't get tired if there are good subjects to take pics of. :-D

Klooster's the Estonian word, yes. We've nicked a lot of words from German and Low German (which is very close to Dutch), so there are bound to be quite a few similar ones! I think some 25% of modern Estonian vocabulary are German + Low German loans (plus a lot of Latin and/or Greek through German).

Oh dear, being without a camera... *feels sympathy*

Gorgeous, all of them. And thanks for giving the link with the convent's history - you know how I looooove me some research! Pictures are always more interesting when you have some idea of the stories behind them.

Glad you enjoyed! And I'm always happy to include links when I have them handy, just on the off chance that someone might want to read more. :-D

Oh those are too cool!

*guh* the convent is just . . .

Mind is blown...

Have a great day!

I wish I had a helicopter. ;-) It's a fascinating place to wander around in, but it also looks mighty fine from the air!

Beautiful pictures, as always.

You should do a book sometime.

Thanks.

And hmm. Mum has done five books now, I think (in the hopes that some people might be interested, but, well). They're pretty to look at, I suppose, but I have no interest in something like that.
