Torchwood & stuff

Right. Saw Torchwood. General verdict - a bit meh, but I've seen worse.

Team Torchwood is... just utter rubbish, yes? And in case we couldn't tell that they're utter rubbish, it was helpfully pointed out for us. A few times. By Team Torchwood, and by a random blowfish. (Who had mighty good teeth. Heh.)

Team Sarah Jane >>> Team Torchwood, yes.

Still, spending time without Jack around seems to have helped the team spirit somewhat, which was good to see.

Ianto was all jealous of everyone over Jack, awww. How cute. Not. Not that I have anything against Ianto, but he's a bit rubbish, isn't he? Although I guess he has useful skills, such as calling out for a taxi, or driving. He's just SO not my type that it makes the eye-candy aspect hard to buy, I guess, and without that, he's really a bit pointless.

Did I miss something last season with the whole big Jack/Gwen lurve? I mean, yeah, Gwen had a thing for him I guess (when she wasn't having a thing for Owen etc), but I don't remember there being any reason for Jack to act like a jilted lover or something. Ah well. I've probably just forgotten.

James Marsters was good but I didn't really care that much about the character.

The trailer for the rest of the season looked quite boring... still, all in all, while I can't say I loved this episode, it was entertaining enough (even if in the way that is likely going to make me forget it within the next hour or so), and I'm looking forward to seeing Martha.

Ought to do some more catching up with the SSHG exchange fics now... I seem to have a good 15 fics yet to read. Mostly the longer ones, although I've also noticed that I haven't just been skipping the longer ones but also the ones with higher ratings. Heh. There have been some real gems among the ones I've read though, and I've even got tentative guesses for the authors of a whole two fics (although I wouldn't be surprised if I was completely off the mark for at least one of them). I'm generally useless at guessing though, so with most, my guesses have been along the lines of "probably American / probably British".

Here's a hint: Mine has been up already.

Right. That narrows it down to about 45 or so? :-D

As I said, I'm entirely useless at this! Especially as the prompts might dictate the responses enough so that they may be quite different from the writer's usual style... and then there are all the people who signed up from whom I've never read anything before, so I have no idea what their style might be and if it might be similar to someone else.

I'm looking forward to the reveals! And then I can be properly embarrassed about not being able to tell who wrote what.

I agree with you on Torchwood. And on the whole Jack/Gwen thing I was like WTF? I don't remember anything going on between then either.

Ack. I think I'll just wait for the new series of Dr. Who to start. Though it has got that Tate woman in it, who irritates the hell out of me (she shouts far too much).

Darl, I wouldn't worry about guessing. I think I recognize about four. And you'll be able to guess mine the moment you start reading it. lol. Apparently my writing is very distinctive. Well, according to AB7. :)

I rather liked Donna in the Runaway Bride... granted, that was mostly because she kept slapping Ten, and that made me cheer. ;-)

I do hope she is a bit calmer as a proper companion though, as I don't know if I'd like a whole season of that! Also, it might help that I'd never seen her in anything before the Runaway Bride.

I'll likely give Torchwood a few more tries... it's not like I'm watching anything else anyway, but I'm not really expecting anything apart from an hour's entertainment at the most. And I have a feeling I'll largely end up wanting to watch it just to make sure I won't miss any possible tie-ins with the new season of Who.

As for the exchange, we'll see! I probably won't. :-D It's not exactly a big issue, but I keep reading and wondering if it's someone I really ought to be able to guess, LOL!

Haha. I am rather fond of Ten, but he does need a slap some time. :)

I've seen her in other stuff, and she really irritates me. I'm hoping she might be better in the new series. Besides, Martha is coming back :)

Oh, I'm sure you will. And I wouldn't worry. I've got to eat my socks if I don't guess one of them. lol.

I suppose that for me, it made sense that her character was irritating in the Christmas special - after all, considering the situation she found her in, I couldn't blame her for being frustrated and acting in a somewhat annoying manner. But I do hope the character is toned down a bit.

It's mostly the different dynamics that are interesting me there - having a companion who is not very young, for a change.

I've got to eat my socks if I don't guess one of them. lol.

That would certainly be an incentive to make a correct guess!

True. I don't think I'll mind too much as long as she tones down the shouting thing. That just ruins it. It will be interesting, I agree, to have an older character -- one Ten can't fall in love with. lol. My, my, Ten does seem to fall in love a lot these days. *snort*

I hope so. The socks I agreed to eat aren't all that appetizing. Old and full of holes.

My method to guess the authors is the same as yours: probably British/probably American (but I could have it wrong and it could be German).

[identity profile] kribu.livejournal.com 2008-01-18 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there is no way for me to guess the non-native English speaking writers (as long as they don't make any obvious mistakes, but at the exchange posting level, I wouldn't really expect that to happen - anyone there has a good grasp of English in the first place, and the beta would take care of any remaining problems).

Plus there might be a sneaky American or two who have opted for British spelling, hehe.

It also doesn't make it easier that I don't know much about half the people who signed up!
