Apparently Musti has ear infection, in both ears. Not that this is "good news" as such, but it's certainly a relief in a way - at least it's something treatable.

She got a bunch of injections at the vet's and medication for her ears (which we'll have to continue with). And she'd eagerly rushed to eat right after getting back home and spent some time running around afterwards, says mum, so I suppose whatever the injections were (including pain killers, I would guess), she must have felt better immediately.

She's back to being a bit apathetic now, but one can't exactly expect miracles. At least I'm hopeful she'll be getting better now. And she just climbed into my lap and started purring.

And I actually got several bits of work today - all smallish things, but still, better than nothing. And might get a bigger thing tomorrow, too, possibly.

Those are good news indeed. A starving and playing kitty is always a good sign.

Yes, indeed - this is what worried me the most, Musti not even wanting to eat the last couple of days. She always wants to eat.

Not that dieting a bit would do her any harm, but preferably not because she's unwell!

That does sound like good news! Hope that medication won't be tricky to get down her. My cat is on a course of pills to keep her thyroid levels under control, and getting them down her can be quite a challenge.

Oh yes, pills and cats don't tend to mix too well. Last time when Musti needed medicine, we tried all sorts of things to get her to take the pills - having them crushed and mixed into a bit of liver paté seemed to work the best, but then she got bored with that.

Fortunately, this is straight-in-the ear stuff - which is tricky, but doable, with two people involved (we've dealt with ear drops and such before).

Sometimes Murli (she came with the name) obediently swallows them straight down, albeit with a little tongue flapping. Other times she manages to spit the pill out several times. Hiding the pill in a bit of chicken seems to work fairly well, but is still no guarantee.

I can't imagine getting eardrops into her!

It's never a guarantee, no - not even when hiding the stuff in their favourite food. They can so easily decide that "no, I don't think I'll want that today". Cats!

Dealing with ear drops is complicated, but manageable, as long as you're not trying to do it alone. With one person holding the cat tightly (pressed against chest, so no manoeuvring room), the other can generally manage to attack the ear. Padded clothes for the holder are recommended though.

Your method of dealing with ear dropping a cat sounds very much like the method used to pill Murli!

I suspect it's the general method of making cats accept things they'd rather not do... I have no idea how people who live on their own and need to deal with a cat would manage! Ask a neighbour to help?

That makes me wonder what someone living like a hermit with no neighbours would do! Pity cats don't really negotiate!

Grow another pair of hands? :-S Or put an ad in the paper and hire an assistant, perhaps?

Yay - something treatable! I'm so relieved.

[Is the icon you're using here Musti? I absolutely love that photo! Not only is she beautiful, but the pose you've caught her in is wonderful.]

So am I! And she is definitely doing better now.

If you mean the icon of the main post, then yes. She's a very pretty cat!
