The downside of summer
4 July 2007 09:23There are a few things about summer that I'm not so keen on... the heat being of course one thing. Not that it's been too bad yet this year, but that unfortunately also means that while the air can be somewhat unpleasantly warm (like yesterday), the water's still too cold for a refreshing dip into the sea in the afternoon/evening.
Although it seems water's now up to 16°C at Pirita... hmm. If the air stays above 20 and the wind direction is favourable and the rain keeps off (never mind the forecasts), maybe it'll actually get to the 18...19°C range eventually. (Ahh... if I were still young enough to stand 16-17°C water! My old bones seem to want at least 18° these days.)
But anyway... summer. It's too bloody light! Decided to try and go to bed earlier yesterday (needing to get to work earlier today), but it was still light enough by 11:30 pm that I had no trouble setting the alarm clock, for example. Without any lights on, with the blinds closed and (darkish) curtains drawn. Trying to fall asleep when it's so light is just... bleh. And of course the bloody light means waking up well before 6 in general... grrr. One would think I'm used to it, having 32 years of experience and all, but... obviously not.
