Back from the vet

Vet visit this morning went fine - although Musti was going quite mad in her hunt for water earlier, which we hid away from her - no problems with anaesthesia, it seems. She just woke up some 20 minutes ago, very confused and wobbly, but managed to find water, drink a bit and then get back to her bed, so she seems okay. Poor thing has a half-shaved paw now; I managed to get most of the bandage off at least.

And the vet just called with the results - Musti has diabetes, yes. Extremely high blood sugar levels. I suppose this explains the rest of the problems being so persistent, too. Anyway, we're to go back sans Musti on Monday and get pills, which she'll have to take for the rest of her life. I just hope this means she'll be feeling better once she'll get started on the treatment.

Best get on with cleaning, now - we'll hopefully get an electrician come over later today to take a look at the situation. It's been getting beyond ridiculous and rather more worrying, lately, to have fuses blown for half the flat a couple of times a week, mostly when turning on the light somewhere. And we're going through lightbulbs at an enormous rate, too - when we're lucky, it's only the bulb that explodes, without taking the rest of the power with it.

I am so glad that you finally know what is causing Musti's problems. Hopefully the meds will help lots, and she will be back to her old self once again!

Did the vet suggest any special diet for her?

The blowing fuses is a scary situation! I'm a complete wash with anything to do with stuff like that. If I tried to track dow the offending "short" I'd probably end up with fried fingers at best and dead on the floor at worst. I believe in electricians and bow to their expertise in all things bright and light.

Not yet. She's been on nothing but special urinary diet food for a month now, for the infection - I assume she'll have to continue this, but we're going to ask on Monday. Will have to see if there's anything better for her, but we also need to consider that it's going to be very difficult if not impossible to keep the other two from eating the same food (it's hard enough to keep Musti eating the food the others get in addition; at least the current diet food is something that works in a prophylactic way for the others, too).

The fuses situation is definitely getting worrisome. It started early this year, doing it once a few months or so, but it's getting far too common now - really about time to have something done about it. There's the problem that we don't actually know any electricians, so it's taken some asking around for recommendations and such; don't really want to risk calling someone entirely random from the phone book or so, without knowing if they're any good at all.

Well, I'm glad that it's something that is treatable. Hopefully Musti will get along well with the medication and be back to her old self soon. :-)

I hope so, yes! Hopefully that will get the leakage and infection under control, too; I assume it's all related.

Thanks. It would help if the electrician actually turned up, but then, he'd said he'd come "some time in the afternoon", which is rather vague.

I'm so glad she's doing well, even with the prognosis. Hopefully, now that you know it's diabetes, it's treatable? Bug hugs for both of you.

Thank you. I do hope so, yes - I suppose we'll find out more on Monday, but at least it's not an immediate death sentence. I'm just hoping the treatment will work and help get it under control.

Oh, glad you know what's going on, at least. Diabetes isn't fun, but it's hopefully well treatable at least, though poor Musti will have certainly had a lot on her plate between the earlier antibiotic adventures, the anaesthetic and now these pills.

Cleaning, bah. Why can't it be one of those civilised things that takes care of itself?

Poor Musti, indeed. At least she's already running around (if not very energetically, but at least in a more confident manner than earlier) and purring. And wanting to eat, heh.

I'm more hopeful than before, anyway. Poor little dear.

I know, I wish it could! It's sooooo tedious, and with cats, no amount of effort seems to have a lasting effect.

I'm glad to hear it's at least treatable. Poor Musti. She's probably not going to be crazy about those pills. Hopefully that'll make the difference.

And eek on the electricity! That's scary. Hope that's able to be fixed.

Managed to get the first quarter pill (I gathered they're not actually meant for cats but for people, hopefully they won't cause more trouble instead! but it also means the daily amount is one quarter of an already very small pill) to her this morning with a spoonful of food - no problems there, a hungry Musti in the morning will eat anything. ;-)

The vet said we'll do this for a month to start with and then he'll want a new blood test, to see if it's actually making a difference / improving things. Poor Musti, she's not going to like that!

It's definitely scary. The electrician did come over and figures there's a short in one (or more) of the wall socket thingies which influences the rest of them too, or something. He's all booked already but figured he'd try and find time still this year to replace all wall sockets and light switches first and see if that helps, before going for the in-the-wall wiring, since that's not an easy (or cheap) task. We'll see, I suppose, at least we've made a start.
