I've been idly speculating for a while that I might at some point need a new desktop computer as the current one is getting rather too slow for my liking and is prone to freezing up whenever I've had Firefox open for more than half a day. Sadly it's at an age where upgrading isn't possible really - would have to get a new motherboard, CPU, compatible RAM and graphics card, as compatible parts don't seem to be around any more - so it's basically getting a whole new computer.
Have figured there's no hurry yet, but tonight, it restarted completely randomly three times in a row - during normal work (without any warning), then during me trying to click the Firefox button when it had started up again, then a few moments after it had started up again and I didn't have anything but IM open yet.
Woe is me.
Of course, once I dug out the laptop and moved here, it seems to be working again... not that I've tried either IM or Firefox. Have tried Outlook, and backed up the data file on the external hard drive, and am backing up pics from the last month or so (I've been neglecting it, bad me - although I think mum has copies of everything anyway).
If it gets wonky again, I'll have to see if I can find the extra power supply I had somewhere in a cupboard, as that would probably be the most likely culprit. But if it's something else, like RAM gone bad or whatever, then... well, I'm looking at new computers. Seems one can get a very decently specced one (with XP Pro) for around 15,000 kr / €1000 / $1500 these days, which is considerably less than I've paid for my previous computers, so that's a good thing - but even so, I'd really rather not have to get one just yet. Grrrr.
In more positive news, I got my Doctor Who: The War Machines DVD on Tuesday (stuck, barely, in the mailbox - where it just doesn't fit. am so glad I got there before anyone else did) - and today I received the notice from Sendit telling me they've dispatched it. *raises eyebrow*
In even more positive news, I actually had a few ideas for the possible more challenging exchange prompt today when on my way home on the bus. Perhaps I will actually manage to make a start on it today.
